AMD Ryzen 3 3200U / 3250U Lower-Mid-Range Laptop CPU – Laptop Processors
The AMD Ryzen 3 3200U / 3250U belongs to the lower mid range processors for notebooks. It has two computing cores as opposed to four of the truly mid-tier chips such as the Ryzen 5 3500U from the same family. The Ryzen 3 3200U / 3250U has a maximal clock speed of 3.5 GHz, which is only a small boost over the previous-gen Ryzen 3 2200U.
The Ryzen 3 3200U and the newer 3250U are basically the same processor. The only difference is that the maximal temperature of the 3200U is rated at 105°C, while on the 3250U it’s 95°C.
AMD Ryzen 3 3200U / 3250U CPU Benchmark
The benchmarks confirm the lower-mid-tier status of the Ryzen 3 3200U / 3250U and its negligible over the Ryzen 3 2200U. The gap between the 3 3200U / 3250U and the quad-core 5 3500U is much bigger, as expected. The Ryzen 3 also can’t quite keep up with its current direct competitor by Intel, the Core i3-8145U.
However, in the real world-use the Ryzen 3 3200U / 3250U is a very capable processor for the usual daily computing chores, such as web surf, writing essays, spreadsheet calculations, media playback, and similar. For most users, the Ryzen 3 is sufficient performance-wise. The more powerful quad-core chips like the Ryzen 5 and Intel Core i5 are recommended if you regularly do heavier computing duties like movie making or professional photo editing, although these chips aren’t full-blown workstation-class CPUs neither.
The Ryzen 3 3200U / 3250U has only the basic Radeon Vega 3 integrated graphics. Gaming is another reason why one would like to get a laptop with the Ryzen 5 series instead of Ryzen 3, because the former has noticeably better Vega 8 integrated graphics. Nevertheless, the Ryzen 3 3200U / 3250U with Vega 3 is capable of running many of the popular games, mostly with lowered graphics and resolution settings, as shown in this YouTube gameplay video playlist:
Note: The benchmark scores of the listed processors are averages measured across various devices with these processors. The scores and real-world performance of the AMD Ryzen 3 3200U / 3250U and compared CPUs may vary depending on the notebooks’ other components, settings, cooling, and other factors. However, the benchmark results are good indicators of the processors’ performance.
