This is a tutorial on how to download the offline version of Scratch 2.0.

Installing Adobe AIR

If one does not already have Adobe AIR, One can download and install it here. If using Linux or a version of macOS older than 10.6, AIR can be downloaded here.

System Requirements

For Scratch to run properly, the following minimum system requirements are needed:[1]

  • Windows, macOS, or Linux
  • Adobe Air version 2.6+
  • Over 23 megabytes of free hard drive space

Installing the Offline Editor

Windows

  1. Make sure Adobe AIR is installed. If not, it can be downloaded from here.
  2. Download Scratch 2.0 for Windows here and run the downloaded file.
  3. * If an error saying “the application could not be installed because the installer file is damaged” appears, try updating AIR to version 33.
  4. Change installation preferences if you wish. In most cases the installation location does not need to be changed.
  5. Click install. If you are prompted for an Administrator password enter it.

Known issues with the offline editor

  • The backpack is not available for the offline editor.
  • Graphics blocks will slow down the editor due to a bug.
  • If your offline editor is crashing directly after Scratch is opened, install the Scratch 2 offline editor again. This issue is due to a bug introduced in Adobe AIR version 14.[1]
