Intel at the Olympic Games

Pioneering best-in-class streaming services

As an Official 5G Technology Partner, Intel worked with Olympic Broadcasting Services Standalone to conduct proof of concept for a new broadcasting model. The resulting Virtualized Outside Broadcast (vOB) Van can support agile production in the field to provide best-in class streaming services for Olympic and Paralympic events—and ultimately reducing costs and complexity for live event video production.

Transforming live broadcasting with 5G streaming

Legacy broadcast solutions can make global live-streaming glitchy and slow. As the Official 5G Technology Platform Partner, Intel worked with the Olympic Broadcasting Services Standalone to leverage 5G at PyeongChang 2018 and Tokyo 2020. The result? Great capacity to support low latency and high bandwidth for live broadcasting over a public network infrastructure. In other words: helping to transform the fan experience.

Empowering athletes with immersive tech

Intel’s venue scanning technology is being adapted to create an indoor navigation platform to ensure independence for athletes with vision impairment. By teaming up with another technology partner, Intel is helping the visually impaired find their way indoors with an indoor wayfinding app, so these athletes don’t have to depend on anyone to get around Olympic and Paralympic venues.

Planning smarter with a smart platform

Leading up to the Olympic Winter Games Beijing 2022, event managers used the Intel-powered Venue Simulation System (VSS), a 3D modeling simulation platform, to visualize venue spaces and create detailed event plans. Then they used VSS to transition efficiently into the Beijing 2022 Paralympic Games by identifying accessibility challenges.
