Speccy

Softonic review

A free software to learn PC specifications

Speccy is a free system information software based on a freemium model that analyzes your Microsoft Windows PC to deliver a comprehensive list of specifications for you to review. The Speccy download is exclusively available for PC computers and laptops from the developer Piriform that released CCleaner, Defraggler, and Recuva.

AIDA64, CPU-Z, HWiNFO, and HWMonitor are additional system profiling applications that read your hardware to give you cohesive lists for you to analyze. Each of the apps gives you basic and detailed information to make informed decisions about the CPU, hard drive, and more.

Is Speccy safe?

Speccy is safe to use since the application is free of adware and malware. The tool gives you a special screenshot feature that does more than just take a still shot of the Speccy user interface. The snapshot option is meant to be used between Speccy users since the screenshot is interactive like the user interface is.

Screenshots are clickable by yourself and the recipients. Whoever gets the snapshot can click around the shot just like in the real app. Since Speccy can contain sensitive info about your PC, you will want to make sure that you only share your snapshot with people that you trust.

What does Speccy do?

Speccy delivers detailed information about your PC in the form of reports that are categorized into tabs in the clean user interface. Speccy is intuitive to use thanks to the left-hand panel that lists the parts of your PC including ‘Operating System’, ‘CPU’, ‘RAM’, ‘Motherboard’, ‘Graphics’, ‘Storage’, ‘Optical Drives’, ‘Audio’, ‘Peripherals’, and ‘Network’.

The program will first open to the ‘Summary’ section to give you a brief yet inclusive overview of your PC specs. Either one or multiple components are listed beneath each portion of the summary section. The operating system is written along with your graphics cards, external and internal drives, and more.

Is Speccy accurate?

Speccy gives you accurate reports about the state of your PC. Since Speccy has not been updated for a while, two types of information may be misleading, which are the temperatures and VRAM numbers. While the temperature may not be accurate, current degrees are listed beside CPU and storage.

The titles are clickable along with the tabs on the side. The summary tab is meant to give you a concise list of important information while the individual segments will delve deeper into the specifics of the data. Speccy is an ideal tool to use to get a complete understanding of every installed element on your desktop.

Each label lets you either expand or contract the dropdown arrows. The ‘Operating System’ area tells you the info of the summary tab and much more information like the battery charge and web browser version. You can see whether your antivirus and firewall are enabled or disabled. The serial number along with the OS installation date are available in the primary portion of the ‘Operating System’ tab.

The ‘Time Zone’ section is handy for general use since you can find the currency, date, language, location, time, and time zone formats that your PC is using. The ‘CPU’ tab lists the name of the CPU along with the number of cores and threads. A ‘Caches’ dropdown lets you know the sizes of each of your caches.

The number of memory slots is available to check in the ‘RAM’ area. You can see the number of free and used memory slots in comparison to the total number available. The SPD dropdown lets you discover additional information about each memory slot, like the brand and model of the RAM.

Additional tabs filled with info

Speccy lets you conveniently get information about the desktop monitors that you are using like name, resolution, height, width, and more. Whether you are using a single monitor or multiple monitors, Speccy will detect the active graphics to show you information.

The ‘Motherboard’ segment lets you know the manufacturer, model, and version number of your motherboard. Additional information like the BIOS is available to look at in the dropdown sections.

Storage’ is the tab where you will find information about your hard drive like the manufacturer and serial number. A S.M.A.R.T. attributes report gives you a better understanding of your hard drive health. A generic status is available to view to let you know whether the hard drive is in good health or not.

A numerical list of your partitions is available to let you know the amount of total, used, and free space on each segmentation of the hard drive. File systems are listed to tell you whether the partition is FAT32 or NTFS. Solid State Drives that you have synced to your PC are available in the ‘Storage’ tab to view as well.

Is Speccy free?

Speccy is free to use to get advanced insights about your PC. A paid version is also available that includes automatic updates and premium Speccy support

While the additions may not be enticing enough, Speccy Pro is the best option to choose in case you want to support the developers. A bundled package is available which includes the CCleaner, Defraggler, and Recuva downloads.

Neat app to keep track

Speccy is a must-have application for Windows users since the app is free and valuable. The sleek UI presents clear data like manufacturers, sizes, version numbers, and more for crucial pieces of technical information like the CPU, motherboard, RAM, etc. Speccy is often used to evaluate the components of PCs before the computers or laptops get sold.

What’s new?

Speccy is a timeless app that does not receive regular software updates. The program has remained relevant despite the lack of updates from the developers. While the premium edition automatically updates your software, the free version lets you manually check for software updates in the lower right corner of the UI.
