Sword Art Online: Alicization Lycoris
Credits to Bandai Namco
(Open Critic Score: 54)
Following the latest season of Sword Art Online, Bandai Namco aimed to capitalize on the Anime’s popularity by creating a game based loosely on Sword Art Online. While it follows the Anime’s story to a certain degree, there are still lapses and diversions from the main plot. The combat is a mix of your typical action-RPG genre with a more tactical combat approach to boss fights.
Overall, this game is mediocre at best; however, since we’re on a list of Best Anime Games, it would be unfair to leave Sword Art Online out of it.
Sword Art Online: Alicization Lycoris is on Steam, Playstation Store, and XBOX One.

Disgaea
Credits to Nippon Ichi Software
(Open Critic Score: 70)
Disgaea is a top-down turn-based and tactical RPG. It resembles many similarities between Final Fantasy Tactics and the Fire Emblem series. Disgaea has a quirky sense of humor, adding dynamics to the serious tone embedded in a typical tactical RPG. The game is also accessible to newbies and pros to the tactical RPG genre; you can play the game as simple as you like or grind the game to the max and get those 9999s of damage for your favorite characters.
Disgaea is out on Steam, Nintendo Store, and the Playstation Store.

Demon Slayer -Kimetsu no Yaiba- The Hinokami Chronicles
Credits to CyberConnect2
(Open Critic Score: 70)
One of the best Animes of recent times, Demon Slayer A.K.A. Kimetsu No Yaiba The Hinokami Chronicles, is something that players should check out if they want to explore the vast number of different move sets characters from the Anime. The gameplay is an arena battle wherein you’ll mainly be fighting an A.I.-controlled enemy, or if you feel that you’re good enough, you’ll be able to fight against other players from around the world. The game also contains a story mode as well, going through the early chapters of the Manga.
Demon Slayer -Kimetsu no Yaiba- The Hinokami Chronicles is out on Steam, Playstation Store, Xbox Store, and the Nintendo Store.

God Eater Trilogy
Credits to Bandai Namco
(Open Critic Score Average: 73)
The God Eater trilogy is comparable to an Anime version of the fabled Monster Hunter series. In this game, you hunt different monsters as well with a twist that you can transform your weapon into either range or melee on the fly. It’s one of the best “Monster Hunter Clones” out there and provides a much more engaging story than Monster Hunter. This anime Monster Hunter game is available for PC, PS4, and Nintendo Switch.
The God Eater Trilogy is out on Steam (God Eater 1 and 2, God Eater 3), Playstation Store (1, 2, and 3), and only God Eater 3 on the Nintendo Store.

Code Vein
Credits to Bandai Namco
(Open Critic Score: 74)
Have you ever wanted to play an Anime version of Dark Souls? Well, look no further, as Code Vein is a great game where you can fulfill your fantasy of dying over and over again but as an Anime character! Seriously, Code Vein is a great game, yet many players overlook this due to the difficulty it poses to new players. The game has a fantastic story with multiple endings, great characters that offer different backstories, and flashy moves to tie that Anime x Souls-like experience in a bow.
Code Vein is available on Steam, Playstation Store, and Xbox Store.
15
Neptunia Re;Birth
Credits to Compile Heart
(Open Critic Score: 75)
If you’re into cutesy anime goddesses, reasonably good action, and turn-based hybrid RPG, then this game is for you. HyperDimension Neptunia contains silly characters and story plus many video game references such as the “Console Wars” and the fabled Emerald Weapon from Final Fantasy VII. Let’s not forget some of the “Fan Services” that the developers included here (Wink Wink, Nudge Nudge).
HyperDimension Neptunia Re;Birth 1 is available on Steam.
14
Yu-Gi-Oh! Master Duel

Scarlet Nexus
Credits to Bandai Namco
(Open Critic Score: 79)
Scarlet Nexus reminds us of DMC, Bayonetta with a blend of the Persona series. It is an action-oriented JRPG with two protagonists. The two protagonists have different campaigns, each spanning 20 hours per campaign. Their tales do intertwine from time to time. However, it is entirely different; you meet other characters throughout the campaign, and completing both stories will give you a better understanding of its world and history.
Scarlet Nexus is available on Steam, Playstation Store, and the Xbox Store.
12
Naruto Shippuden: Ultimate Ninja Storm 4
Credits to CyberConnect2
(Open Critic Score: 79)
The final chapter to the Naruto Shippuden saga, the Ultimate Ninja Storm 4, offers one of the most competitive versions of the Storm series, plus the ending of the Naruto Shippuden. Although there are deviations from the Anime itself, the story-telling and boss-battles in this game are top-notch, making it quickly one of the most favorite Naruto games out there! This great anime game is available for all major platforms, PC, PS4, Xbox, and the Nintendo Switch.
Naruto Shippuden Ultimate Ninja Storm 4 is out on Steam, Nintendo Store, Playstation Store, and the Xbox Store.

Pokemon: Sword And Shield
Credits to GameFreak
(Open Critic Score: 80)
Pokemon Sword and Shield is the latest mainline game entry to the Pokemon series. It follows the standard Pokemon game setup, you pick between three starter pokemon, and eventually, you’ll be set in the world to become a Pokemon champion. Coming from the initial 2D sprites from older games, Sword and Shield is a step up from the older entries. One of the best features of this game is that the random encounters are now gone, allowing you to pick your fights correctly, making traversal through grassy areas and dark caves much less tedious.
Pokemon Sword and Shield are available on the Nintendo Store.

Genshin Impact

(Open Critic Score: 80)
Now, we enter the top 10 of the best anime games, and what a way to kick off this top half with Genshin Impact. This game is the penultimate combination of Legend of Zelda: Breath of The Wild and Anime. It is an online open-world action RPG with the elements of Gacha (Gacha is similar to loot boxes, but instead, you get characters and weapons of different rarities and effects). What’s great about this is this Anime Game is available for the PC, PS4, and your mobile phones!

NEO: The World Ends With You
Credits to Square Enix
(Open Critic Score: 80)
The World Ends With You is a modern-day action RPG set in Shibuya with a unique anime-art style and a mix of urban fantasy. Square Enix released the first The World Ends With you in 2007 for the Nintendo DS; this sequel game saw success with its unique take on death, allowing players to use deceased characters to form a large team. Have you seen the food and the clothing shops in this game? It looks incredible and something that I’d highly invest my time in. A bopping soundtrack accompanies its fast-paced gameplay, which players will genuinely admire about this game.
NEO: The World Ends With You is available on the Nintendo and Epic Games Store.

Danganronpa Trilogy
Credits to Spike Chunsoft
(Open Critic Score Average: 84)
Danganronpa is an Anime Visual Novel game that centers around a group of captured star students who are exceptional at specific niches; however, a bear named Monokuma announced that to survive the school, they need to kill each other. The game’s story revolves around solving the mystery, and with each death, you’ll be able to discuss with other characters to find out who the killer is. This predicament gives you a solid number of endings in which you can either save all of your classmates, or you’ll be left with the murderer alive.
Danganronpa Trilogy is available on Steam (1 plus 2 and 3), Playstation Store (1 plus 2 and 3), Nintendo Store (1, 2, and 3), and Xbox Store.

Guilty Gear -Strive-
Credits to Arc System Works
(Open Critic Score: 86)
Guilty Gear is one of the most overlooked fighting games out there. This lack of interest primarily stems from the difficulty and the high skill ceiling that the previous games offer. The anime-Esque vibe and the gorgeous backdrops make the game feel unique and amazing to play, not to mention the eargasmic soundtrack that the game offers. There is also a story campaign available for the game; however, it focuses more on cutscenes and movies rather than gameplay, which is highly respectable since you’re just watching an anime at that point.
Guilty Gear -Strive- is available on Steam and the Playstation Store.
6
Dragon Ball FighterZ
Credits to Bandai Namco
(Open Critic Score: 86)
Dragon Ball FighterZ is one of the best Anime fighting games of all time. It’s a 2.5D fighting game by Arc System Works and brings Dragon Ball characters to the competitive fighting scene. The game utilizes team-based gameplay, similar to the Marvel VS. Capcom series. The graphics look fantastic with its cell-shading technique, making a much more authentic Anime experience. Easy to learn but hard to master, that’s the game’s selling point. This Dragon Ball Anime Fighting Game is available for the PC, PS4, Xbox and the Nintendo Switch.
Dragon Ball FighterZ is available on Steam, Playstation Store, Xbox Store, and the Nintendo Store.
5
Doki Doki Literature Club
Credits to Dan Salvato LLC
(Open Critic Score: 87)
Doki Doki Literature Club is another Anime Visual Novel game that centers around cutesy Anime girls. The game revolves around a dating simulator which then transitions into a horror-mystery game. It hides through the goody-two-shoes anime girls and then strikes you with fear, and horror, which is a great mix-up from classic horror games. Since the animations are static and there’s barely any gameplay at all, all of those horror elements stick out like a sore thumb once the game introduces them. What’s great about this Anime game is it’s available for PC, PS4, Xbox, and Switch.
Doki Doki Literature Club is available on Steam, Playstation Store, Xbox Store, and the Nintendo Store.
4
Astral Chain
Credits to PlatinumGames
(Open Critic Score: 87)
Astral Chain is the pinnacle of the best anime action game which involves mechatronics and is set in the world far into the future. It’s a reasonably easy game that has a high skill ceiling. You can either control your character or your legion through the astral link that you get throughout the game. The campaign spans for about 20 hours which is decent enough, plus the legions that you’ll gather give a breath of fresh air while you’re playing through the game. This Devil May Cry/Bayonetta-like Anime game is only available for the Nintendo Switch.
There are also multiple side-quests available which sometimes unlocks new hidden paths that can net you great rewards for your trouble. This
Astral Chain is available on the Nintendo Store.
3
Tales of Arise
Credits to Bandai Namco
(Open Critic Score: 87)
Tales of Arise is one of the best JRPGs ever made. It’s a mix of action and tactical-RPG revolving around dungeon crawling mechanics reminiscent of Final Fantasy VII Remake Part 1. If you haven’t tried this game yet, we highly recommend you to check this game out as the story and the character progressions provided by the game are phenomenal.
Tales of Arise is available on Steam, Playstation Store, and the Xbox Store.

Final Fantasy XIV: Endwalker
Credits to Square Enix
(Open Critic Score: 93)
Final Fantasy XIV: Endwalker is the latest expansion for the fabled and highly regarded online game. Despite being an MMORPG, most people find Final Fantasy XIV to have the most in-depth story; this is a rare trait to find in an MMO these days. Not to mention the massive raid battles you’d be able to experience with your guildmates and friends, it feels something out of a concluding Anime episode wherein all of the main characters have to fight the big bad boss that ends the series.
Final Fantasy XIV: Endwalker is available on the Square Enix Store and the Playstation Store.

Persona 5
Credits to Atlus
(Open Critic Score: 94)
Persona 5 is arguably the best entry in the Persona Franchise. It still has that classic JPRG turn-based battle system familiar to fans. It retains recurring aspects from previous entries in the series, such as persona fusion, dating simulator mechanics, and multiple endings. This game is honestly the best Anime Game out there right now if you’re looking for a story-driven RPG. However, the best Anime Game on the list is only available on the PS4 and the PS5 console.
Persona 5 is available on the Playstation Store.
