2020 ASEAN Para Games | Para Athletics (Singapore)
The 2020 ASEAN Para Games is an upcoming biannual multi-sport event to be held after the 2019 Southeast Asian Games in the Philippines for athletes with physical disabilities from 18 to 25 January. Participants came from 11 countries in Southeast Asia. The games, patterned after the Paralympics, will include athletes with various disabilities. This will be the second time Philippines hosted the ASEAN Para Games and its first time since 2005.
At least 1,400 differently-abled athletes from the 11 member countries of Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, Vietnam, Singapore, Myanmar, Brunei, Laos, Cambodia, Timor Leste, and the Philippines are expected to participate in the week-long sporting festivities.
Fourteen sports to date have been short-listed for the Games, namely archery, athletics, badminton, boccia, chess, cycling, sitting-volleyball, wheelchair-basketball, goalball, judo, powerlifting, swimming, tenpin bowling, and table tennis. Participants in the ASEAN Para Games include athletes with physical, vision, and intellectual disabilities.
Meanwhile, in the local sports scene, the Singapore National Paralympic Council (SNPC) Selection Committee has confirmed the final round of nominations of the various sports to select the athletes who had made the cut to represent Singapore at the 10th ASEAN Para Games in the Philippines.
