7 Best Houseparty Games – Fun Games to Play on the Houseparty App

Everyone loves a good house party. The friends, the family, the snacks, the drinks, and most importantly, the games. Unfortunately, real-life house parties are pretty much out of the question right now — which means the next-best thing is the Houseparty app, a popular video-chat service that has built-in games.

To help make your upcoming virtual get-together even better than the last, we’ve rounded up the best games on Houseparty, as well as how to play them. First you’re going to need the app. To do that, head to the or Google Play Store and download Houseparty. You can also download the app onto your computer from the Houseparty website.

Once you have the app, add your contacts and start a call. On the top of your screen, you’ll see a dice icon. Click that icon to see the available games. Choose your game and get started — it’s that easy! And for more virtual fun, check out the best games to play on Zoom (or any video-chat service, really).

Below are some of the best games to play on Houseparty:

  1. Chips and Guac: This hilarious word association game makes for hours of non-stop laughs. To play, one person deals a descriptor card — these cards say something like “sneaky” or “can’t even” — and everyone else puts down a card that they think best matches that descriptor. (In that way, the game is super similar to Cards Against Humanity.) A judge chooses which match is funniest, and the person who put down that card wins that round.
  2. Heads Up – Sound it Out: By now, many of us have played — and fallen in love with — the Heads Up app. And fortunately, Houseparty allows you to play the Charades-like game within its app, with each subject card appearing at the top of the screen instead on top of players’ heads. And while Houseparty’s Heads Up offers many of the same decks as the Heads Up app, we love the “Sound it Out” deck. To play, you must get your teammate to guess what’s on the card by making sound effects only.
  3. Heads Up – Karaoke Night: Another favorite Heads Up deck? “Karaoke Night.” Each card in this game has the name of a karaoke classic on it, and you’ll have to hum the song to your teammate in order for them to guess it. This deck is great for friend groups who can’t wait to get back to the mic.
  4. Heads Up – Act it Out, Family Style: This deck is extra fun because it requires everyone to work as a team (and we could all use a little extra teamwork in these trying times). Each card in the deck is meant to be acted out by three or more people — and so everyone needs to be on top of their game.
  5. Quick Draw: Who’s the best artist in your group? You’re about to find out. Houseparty’s Quick Draw is an online version of Pictionary. When you play, you’ll see a word at the top of your screen and a blank drawing pad; the other players will only see your drawing. Draw the word on the screen to the best of your ability and see if the other players can guess it.
  6. Trivia – General Knowledge: Houseparty has 18 free trivia decks, which means you can keep those game-night skills in tip-top shape. One of our favorite decks is “General Knowledge,” for the simple fact that it tests your friends’ knowledge of simple facts.
  7. Trivia – Finish the Song Lyric: If your group is musically inclined — or even if it’s not — try the “Finish the Song Lyric” deck. This deck will give you one half of a song lyric and ask you to finish it. Make the game even more fun by requiring everyone to sing the lyrics too.
