Three gaming profiles

The first configuration item that appears are three user profiles adapted to the three most common user profiles. We can find the standard profile, one for gaming and another for eSports lovers. Each of these profiles offers us different elements and they are designed to offer us the best user experience.

As we said, the user interface has been improved and simplified, generating an easy and intuitive menu bar. We will also find a large amount of information that allows us to see everything. Allows you to see game time and game performance of the latest titles that we have enjoyed. It informs us of updates, devices connected through Radeon Link and information about our hardware.

Within the navigation bar we find access to the home page, which we will see later that it gives us. We also have gaming, streaming and performance elements, which are other categories that we will talk about. We have an internal search engine to find what we need. A web browser has been integrated so that we do not have to leave the tool if we need any information. We have a warning menu in case there are news or anything else we need to know. Finally we have the general configuration options, clock, window or full screen mode and close the application.

The home page offers us a huge amount of useful information. We see a first block that tells us it indicates the four most recent games that we have enjoyed and the total hours. It also indicates the average FPS of these games. We have another panel which is the captures panel. Here we can see the screenshots made, the recorded sections, we can make Instant Replay of the best plays and even create gif in a simple way.

For us, the most interesting panel is the one on the right. This tells us if our driver version is the most recent or if there is a newer one to update. It also indicates the devices that we have connected through Radeon Link and manage them. Finally, it tells us if our hardware is compatible with the game that we have selected in the upper left panel (the first one we have discussed)

Full control of metrics

While we are playing we can access the Adrenalin software (cntl + r) and see game metrics. It will indicate the game that we have launched and the time we have been enjoying our game. But the most relevant data is not this, the most relevant time is the metrics. And it is that it shows us the FPS of the game, the use of GPU, the use of VRAM, the use of CPU and the use of RAM. A really useful amount of information that will tell us if we can still get more out of our hardware.

Do you want to squeeze every game? Now it is much easier in the Gaming menu. This menu gives us a huge amount of useful information regarding any of the games we have installed.

In addition to running the game that interests us the most, we can make adjustments to seek the best performance. It also indicates the compatibility of our hardware to follow the recommended requirements of the game in question. Indicates the performance level of the game, the average FPS and the 99th Percentile.

Other information that it offers us is when we last played a title and the time we spent on it. It also indicates the hours played in the last week and the total hours that we have dedicated to a game.

We can also make a large number of graphic adjustments within this menu. We can change the graphic profile, activate different elements such as Radeon Boost, Anti-Lag, Enhaced Sync, Anti-Aliasin, Integer Scaling or the screen on which we want the game to run. The truth is that it offers us a world of possibilities quickly, easily and intuitively.

More and more users are betting on sharing their games live. Relying on third-party software can be a hassle and can lead to performance losses. AMD has integrated a Live Streaming function that allows us to make all the adjustments within the Adrenalin software.

Within the Streaming menu we can see a large amount of information. We can select the streaming platform, the region and other parameters such as ‘Push to talk’ and the webcam. We can also adjust the volume of our microphone.

It offers us useful information such as the number of users who are watching us or how long we have been broadcasting. Being able to see what users see without having the browser open consuming resources is other really interesting elements. Without a doubt the most interesting part of all the views so far. Here we have a very complete menu that lets us fiddle with the parameters of our graphics card. The first thing is that we can create three custom profiles for different games or situations. What’s more, we can have two profiles adjusted by us and another that is an automatic one and that allows the adjustment in auto or manual, as we are interested.

What we can see in this menu is the performance of the graph, being able to see the current frequency and working voltage. We see below a voltage and frequency ramp that indicates the minimum and maximum, as well as at the point where we are on the ramp. This information is extremely useful to see how it behaves.

Right next to it we have the temperature and fan parameters. Here it indicates the RPM at which the fan rotates as well as the general temperature and the hottest point of the GPU. We can also see a ramp of operation of the fans and the temperature of the graphics card, indicating at each moment with a white line where we are.

In addition we can also see the working frequency of the VRAM and make adjustments to it. We also have another panel to adjust the power of the graph, being able to set the Power Limit and see the consumption in real time.

Being able to play in our living room without having to move the PC is also great. We can meet friends and play multiplayer titles from the couch while the game is running on our PC. Integer Scaling

Many classic titles and even some modern indie-type games are based on pixel art. This is a problem when we run it in high resolutions, since going from 240p to 4K causes blurry images and we cannot enjoy the details of the sprites. Users have sued AMD for a solution for this and as we see, it has been followed.

By means of Integer Scaling or integer scaling what we have is that a pixel is multiplied by four times or more. With this it is achieved that a blurry and low quality image is not seen, being able to appreciate the graphic details.

Note that this function only works for games that run at half the resolution of our screen. If we have a 4K monitor we can run a 1080p game without major problems. This filter has been developed to offer users the best image quality. Most games use post-processing filters like TAA or FXAA that allow you to smooth the edges of objects. These filters have the problem of generating a bit of blur in the scene. Even when running a lower resolution scene on a large screen, the blurring and anti-aliasing can be even higher.

RIS corrects this problem and offers better visual quality in the game using an adaptive contrast system. For this, the Sharpering algorithm (CAS) included in FidelityFX offers developers post-processing filters that do not need to be integrated into the game. This allows RIS to be compatible with most games by relying on an algorithm that modulates the degree of sharpness according to contrast. Cleanses the interior object and leaves the high-contrast edges virtually intact.

Thus RIS avoids harsh effects such as ‘ringing’ or halos that occur with other adjustment effects. The addition of smooth gradients on high contrast edges is avoided. The RIS result can be combined with virtually any game smoothing technique for great results.

This RIS feature works with GCN and RDNA based GPUs, as well as DirectX 11, DirectX 12, and Vulkan APIs. RDNA GPUs also support DirectX 9 APIs. This RIS technology is not supported in HDR color modes.
