What is Aptos?

Aptos is a scalable Layer 1 proof-of-stake blockchain that uses the Move programming language to execute fast and secure transactions. Aptos Labs Foundation, the team behind Aptos, was established by former Meta (Facebook) employees, and aims to become the world’s safest, fastest, and most reliable blockchain solution. Aptos’ mission, as stated on the Aptos Labs website, is to improve and redefine the web3 experience for users.

Move is a Rust-based programming language for smart contracts, which was initially developed for Facebook Libra (by the same team behind Aptos). Lately there has been a lot of talk on social media on the Aptos topic, and its intriguing past with Meta has contributed to the growing hype.

The blockchain has been developed over the last period of three years, by more than 350 developers from around the world. Aptos was officially launched on 12 October 2022, when Aptos genesis occurred.

Aptos (APT), the utility and governance token for the blockchain, was launched on the market at $8 and trades at an average of $7 at the time of writing, with 130,000,000 APT tokens in circulation from a total supply of 1,000,000,000. The ATP token was listed by major crypto exchanges soon after it was launched, and went straight to #52 on Coinmarketcap.

Because it is capable of sustaining 160,000 tps (transactions per second), Aptos was dubbed “the Solana killer” by the crypto community, given that Solana has encountered network stability problems in the past. However, the Aptos blockchain is still in its early staring days, and still has a long way to go to reach the number of smart contracts, DAO’s or DeFi platforms available on Solana.

Best wallets for Aptos blockchain

Currently popular wallets such as MetaMask do not support Aptos, as of yet. It is reasonable to expect that they add support for Aptos in the coming months.

Trust Wallet already did add support for Aptos, days after their did the airdrop and launched their testnet.

Aptos is available on dozens of wallets, such as Martian Wallet, Fletch Aptos Wallet, Fewcha Wallet, Pontem Aptos Wallet, Spika Wallet, Safepal, Blocto Wallet, ONTO Wallet, Petra Wallet, and many more.
