CD (GOTY) version
last published 3 years, 6 months ago
Installs from the original Sierra branded CD-ROM without the need for the Steam client. To my knowledge, this is the only way to run Half-Life on Linux legally without the Steam client.
When it prompts “Did you hear the sound file?” say yes, even if you didn’t hear anything.
Click the default options in the installer.
Don’t opt to update the game during installation.
Don’t opt to register or to run the game through the windows installer at the end.
On first run, the game will ask for a CD Key. You can either use your legitimate key or find one online.
The game won’t play its CD audio OST without the disc inserted, but the game is quite playable after install without a disc. -

This is a base for other installers. Installs the CD version of the game and rips audio tracks to .mp3 files into game folder.
Do not run the game yet and do not patch manually.
When installation completes, proceed to use one of the 2 other installers:
– Half-Life – Patch v1.1.1.0 version – lutris:half-life-patch-v1110 (https://lutris.net/api/installers/half-life-patch-v1110).
– Half-Life: Opposing Force – CD v1.0.0.x version – lutris:half-life-opposing-force-cd-v100x (https://lutris.net/api/installers/half-life-opposing-force-cd-v100x). -

Patch v1.1.1.0 R1.1 version
last published 1 week, 5 days ago
This updates the game to the last World Opponent Network (WON) non-Steam version. Use only if you do not intend to install Half-Life: Opposing Force. Patches Half-Life to v1.1.1.0. Applies community resolution/FoV/mp3 patch v1.1.2.
Requires Half-Life v1.0.0.x to be already installed. For best results use lutris:half-life-cd-v100x (https://lutris.net/api/installers/half-life-cd-v100x) prior to running this installer.
Game patches can be found inside this archive (1.58 GB): https://www.moddb.com/games/counter-strike/downloads/half-life-updates-pre-post-1100
Download it once and keep it at hand, installer script will ask for it.Community resolution/FoV/mp3 patch v1.1.2 can be found here: https://www.moddb.com/downloads/half-life-won-resolution-fov-mp3-patch
Download it once and keep it at hand, installer script will ask for it.Installer script will first verify that you got the correct files. It will then proceed to apply patches in correct sequence according to instructions from the 1st archive.
Run the game with Default OpenGL driver (3dfx mini doesn’t work good with wine and the installer script will disable it) and select resolution to match your Desktop, e.g. run it with game args:
-full -gl -gldrv Default -width 1920 -height 1080 -consoleIf you want to use Direct3D then you must run it in window mode, e.g.:
-window -d3d -width 1920 -height 1080 -console
because it is unstable in fullscreen mode.
