Kahoot! is a free online tool that allows people to create interactive quiz-style games. Users can create their own games or use and adapt games that are already available on the platform. With Kahoot!, users can create a variety of games called Kahoots on any topic and add images and videos to questions. Users can choose if the games are hosted live or assigned to play at their own pace. Users can play individually or in teams. Kahoot! can be accessed in a web browser or through an application available in Apple Store and Google Play. Kahoot! offers a free version and three paid plans with extra features.

Teaching with the Tool

Kahoot! is an online tool that allows teachers to conduct interactive game-like quizzes in the face-to-face or online classroom. With Kahoot!, teachers can create educational content and present it in an engaging and interactive way. Kahoot! can be used in face-to-face, blended, or online classes. The tool’s functionality provides for both real-time play in class or out-of-class play in the form of an assignment. Teachers can choose from six types of games and five types of polls. Kahoot! provides thousands of already-created games on many different topics and for diverse audiences. Teachers can select one of the already-created Kahoots and use it in the classroom or customize the game to adjust it to the specific class content and/or age group, or create a game Kahoot! from scratch. Teachers can include images, videos, and audio files within Kahoot! games.

Kahoot! games can be used for many classroom purposes, such as an ice-breaker or review at the beginning of the class session, a quick in-the-moment check for understanding, or a review before an assessment. After Kahoot! games are completed, teachers can get reports based on students’ answers, which can be saved to a device, viewed online, or exported to a cloud storage such as Google Drive. The free version allows teachers to create multiple-choice and true-and-false questions, and add slides. There are three paid plans that include features such as multi-select answers, puzzles, polls, image reveal, type the answer, and audio in question in more than 35 languages. Although the paid plans offer more features and a greater variety of question types, the features of the free version are enough for teachers to create Kahoot! games that provide for increased interaction and engagement in any classroom.
