Para Sports – Paralympic India

Para sport is a term that describes sport offered as part of the Paralympic Movement. There are 31 Para sports recognised by the International Paralympic Committee, of which 29 are currently contested at the Paralympic Games (23 summer and 6 winter). A large number of these Para sports are currently available within India at various levels of competition.

A Para athlete is an athlete that has a disability or impairment that makes them eligible to compete in Para sport. The ultimate goal for Para athletes is to represent their country at a Paralympic Games. The Paralympic Games take place every four years and is one of the most competitive multi-sport competitions in the world.  Paralympic Games and Paralympians all aiming to be the best they can be and through their performances, changing perceptions of disability.

Whatever your experience and aspirations, there are a number of opportunities for you to get involved in Para sport in India.

The vision of the Paralympic Movement is achieve sporting excellence. The ultimate goal for some Para athletes may be to represent their country at a Paralympics Games whilst for others it may be to just compete against other Para athletes in their chosen sport. you need to progress through your journey to the Paralympic Games from Grassroots to Gold!
