Pilipinas Para Games – Philippine Sports Commission

In 2018, the
Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) inaugurated the Differently-Abled Sport For
Life (DAS4LIFE) program which aims to institute a sports development program
dedicated for people with disabilities. Through the partnership of PSC
Commissioner Arnold Agustin with the Philippine Paralympic Committee (PPC)
several were taken in creating an even better program. This gave birth to
Pilipinas Para Games (PPG) which seeks to give PWDs – children in particular,
an opportunity to find a safe space away from the influence of illegal drugs,
and gain self-confidence and better self-esteem.

The project
continues to be conducted and launched in different provinces all over the
country. It is in collaboration with the local government unit through its
Person with Disability Affairs Office and the Department of Education, to
involve more children as participants. It was first conducted with 115
differently-abled athletes from the municipalities of Bokod, Itogon, Kapangan,
La Trinidad, Mankayan, Tuba, Tublay and Baguio City.

The program aims to
achieve a national social change by mending divides born out of differences in
individual skills and capabilities. It is also geared to transcend language,
physical and social barriers through sports by creating a culture of unity for
members of the differently-abled. PSC aims to promote unity and parity through
sports and with Pilipinas Para Games it aims to build a nation that treasures
and accepts all people.
