Pinterest testing GIF functionality

Pinterest is experimenting with a feature that lets users play GIFs uploaded on the social media platform, Mashable reports.

Currently, when users upload GIFs onto Pinterest, the GIFs post only as still images. To play the a GIF, users must click through the image to the GIF’s original source, according to the news site.

Pinterest told Mashable it would not comment on how many users it’s allowing to play GIFs during the current testing phase and when or if the company would roll out the feature to all its users.

A GIF is essentially a sequence of images that loop over and over again, and is a popular medium for memes.
