PlatinumGames is a Japanese game developer based in Osaka, Japan and is best known for developing character action games including the Bayonetta series and Nier: Automata.

Platinum was founded in 2007 following the merger of Seeds Inc. (founded by Shinji Mikami, Atsushi Inaba, and Hideki Kamiya) and Odd Inc. (founded by Tatsuya Minami). The developer eventually signed a deal with Sega to developer four original games; MadWorld, Infinite Space, Bayonetta and Vanquish.

PlatinumGames has held a close relationship Nintendo, which published and funded a number of their titles including The Wonderful 101, Bayonetta 2 and Bayonetta 3. The studio also created Star Fox Zero using the Nintendo franchise.

The studio has also created Konami‘s Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance and Nier: Automata for Square Enix. Nier Automata was a huge success for Platinum, selling more than 3.5 million copies.

In all, PlatinumGames has produced 15 games in ten years, and it has at least five more in development as of June 2019. Platinum is busy creating two new independent IPs owned entirely by the studio, neither of which have been announced. The company is also planning to move into self-publishing.
