I wanted to install the software for this keyboard that I found on Lenovo website.
But, as it turned out, it cannot install on both of my old laptops HP and Samsung with Windows 7 (32 bit) [although the site indicates support for Windows 7 (32 bit) for this software]. A window pops up with the message: “Internal error: Cannot access 64-bit registry keys on this version of Windows.”
Internal error (booting in Safe mode)
Lenovo Support asked me:
“May we know the models of the laptop you’re trying to install this software to?”.
And when I told them both models of my laptops, their last messages were these:
“Please note that this particular software will only work with Thinkpad Lenovo units and not with any other brands. Are you also trying to download this to a Lenovo unit? <…> we only provide technical assistance for a Lenovo unit here. We recommend contacting the support hotline of your computer’s manufacturer for further assistance”.
Then I answered the following:
“But I have Lenovo unit: Lenovo ThinkPad TrackPoint Keyboard II. Like many other products that require a driver for full use, this driver should work on any computer with a compatible OS. Why doesn’t the Lenovo website indicate that the driver for this product works only on Lenovo computers? If I had this kind of information, perhaps I would not buy a product that would not work fully without a driver. If your understanding of this keyboard is not a “Lenovo Unit”, then where can I go for help with this Lenovo keyboard?”.
But after that, they didn’t answer me again.
By the way, another unpleasant moment is that at first I simply could not contact Support on the Lenovo website, since for this you first need to specify the serial number of your product. But every time I entered the serial number, the Lenovo site just couldn’t find my product, so further steps to contact Support were impossible.
All this gives the impression that the Lenovo Support Service is not serious about supporting this keyboard.
