Samsung Galaxy Fit 2 vs Amazfit Band 5: Head to Head Comparison | WesKnows

Today we have a Head to Head comparison between Samsung Galaxy Fit 2 and Amazfit Band 5. Both have tons of premium features! But which one is most desirable? Which one brings more value to the table? That’s what we are going to find out!

Samsung Galaxy Fit 2 has brought a great fitness tracker to the market. The Price is surprisingly budget friendly for premium specs! And the word “Galaxy” in its name suggests this is a serious piece of kit!

Amazfit is Huami’s own brand of wearables tech! And Amazfit Band 5 comes to the market with a Bang! It’s better than the Xiaomi Mi Band 5. It’s got a superior heart rate sensor, it gets onboard Alexa as well as a SpO2 monitor!

Both trackers are sold for $40. Which one should you get? We’ll be comparing the Design, Display and Features and functions on these 2 trackers. Without further ado let’s dive in!

Design

Design is always key, because at the end of the day we do judge a book by its cover… Galaxy Fit 2 is quite bland, plastic rectangular but pops out of the rubber strap with ease to charge or to change straps… now getting different color straps is a bit of a nuisance as you can only buy the Samsung official straps.

Amazfit Band’s case is also made of polycarbonate, design of the case is more curved. But dimensions are largely same. It also pops out of the strap with ease if you need to change straps.

The TPU straps are similar in quality both flexible and rather soft. But Amazfit’s strap is little widder and just that little bit more velvety to the touch! I’ve been wearing both to the gym, on my daily walks and jogs and no sign of any skin irritation noticed.

I particularly want to mention clasps. Amazfit opts for its standard clip in clasp.. it’s a simple principle, not particularly innovative but it does the job by fastening securely and quickly. While Samsung’s clasp is frankly atrocious. The plastic clip-in is actually a moving part, on top of that it looks extremely cheap. Getting the tracker on is just as much hassle as taking it off. Forget about quickly slipping it on or off during a workout.

Display

Now if we step away from the pellet like tracker cases and focus our attention on the display panels you’ll notice that both use rectangular 1.1″ AMOLED panels.. the AMOLED display resolution is identical at 126 by 294px.

the 1.1″ is a good effort, but I just can’t see why they couldn’t be stretched out further? Just look at all the unused space. The tracker face is huge, but the actual display is tiny. Honor Band 6 comes to mind here… 1,47” AMOLED display stretching from brim to brim…

Both screens are touch activated, with a capacitative button just below the screen. Both displays manage to keep similar amount of smudges from your finger tips, so a good wipe is needed often.

Both displays are very bright and offer deep blacks, bright colours and offer easy visibility in practicvally all light conditions Inside or out! The Fit 2 has just over 70 watch face styles you can download from the app, while the the Amazfit Band 5 has much more. And if the Fit 2 faces are quite greedy in terms of data you can put on the screen.. the Amazfit Band 5 takes this round with ease! Not only are the faces customizable you can choose which data you want to showcase! On top of that Amazfit now allows photo watch faces, and it’s available on Android and iOs smartphones.

No auto brightness available on either of the bands but the Fit 2 does have 10 brightness levels as opposed to the 5 on Amazfit Band 5.

The main difference of operating the trackers lie in the direction of swipes. if the Fit2 takes you around it’s functionality from left to right, the Amazfit Band 5 takes you for spin with vertical swipes.

Features and Functions

Basic Features and Functions are available on both like alarms, step count, continuous heart rate monitoring, weather app, music controllers, timer and stopwatch. Now let’s discuss the more advanced features on each and find where there are overlaps and if there are gaps in functionality!

The Fit 2 has a huge range of sport modes available from the Samsung Fit app, and you can store upto 10 as favourites on your watch. The Amazfit Band 5 has 11 sports available and these are not adjustable. Also, the Amazfit Band 5 is capable of auto detecting either running or walking while the Galaxy Fit 2 is capable of auto recognizing 5 workouts. These are rowing, elliptical training, dynamic workouts at the gym or in the park, walking and running.

Both trackers are waterproof up to 50m so jumping in the pool is no issues with these ones. But the Amazfit Band 5 is just that little more user friendly and you can customize pool length right from your watch face.

Sleep monitoring covers all 3 sleep stages – Light, Deep and REM on both trackers. Samsung records sleep data over a nice plot in the Samsung Health App … mind you there are no sleep scores here to tell you how good or bad you’ve slept which is a shame really. Hence Amazfit takes the upper hand here, it also plots the data but in addition provides a sleep score, detailed breakdown and advice on how to improve your sleep quality.

Both have stress monitors, also both offer breathing apps that will calm and relax you during the day. but the Fit 2 also gets a hands washing monitor and reminder throughout the day.. if you are using an Android smartphone, the Fit 2 allows for quick replies to incoming text messages.

But Amazfit trumps the hand wash monitor and quick replies with these 3 features:

Firstly you get Alexa! Can you believe this, a tracker that costs $40 has Amazon’s Alexa to tell you a joke, the weather, directions, set your alarms or record your shopping list! This is a premium feature than began with Fitbit’s Versa.. but that thing costs $250… I can’t say I use the feature all that often but just knowing it’s available makes me fell good.

Secondly, Amazfit calculates your PAI. PAI metric which nails your cardiovascular health in one number, based on all you past activities and heart rate. Keep that value above 100 and statistically you are 25% less prone to getting heart disease.

Thirdly, Band 5 gets an on-demand SpO2 aka blood oxygen saturation monitor.

Battery life is similar on both devices with typical usage claimed by the manufacturers in excess of 2 weeks. My results vary and I think you’ll be lucky to squeeze out 8-10 days from each.

So which tracker should You go for?

I think both trackers offer plenty of basic and premium features. Design and displays are also very similar. But Amazfit does offer more bang for the buck!

You get Alexa, SpO2 monitoring, better sleep stages monitoring and analysis, as well as the PAI metric which is actually becoming the norm in the health insurance market.
