Samsung Galaxy Fit 2 vs Xiaomi Mi Band 5: Head 2 Head Comparison | WesKnows

Samsung Galaxy Fit 2 has brought a great fitness tracker to the market. The Price is surprisingly budget friendly for premium specs! Before the Fit 2 came on the scene though Xiaomi’s Mi Band 5 was dominating the budget fitness tracker market! We’ve put these 2 to the test in a head to head comparison to figure out which one is best!

The Mi Band 5 is produced by Huami, the second largest tech wearables manufaturer in the world! Once it came out, the masses were shocked! a 1.1″ AMOLED display, auto activity recognition, 11 sport modes and all that for £40 or $40… While Fit 2 is brought to us by Smasung – one of the most advanced tech giants in the world. I have to say that I absolutely love that Samsung managed to squueze the word “Galaxy” into the Fit 2 name. It just sounds so much more premium… but you can walk away with it for only £50 or $50…

Without further ado! Let’s get in there and find out what these 2 trackers can and cannot do!

Design

Kicking off with design! We have the black ones with us today and let’s face it – both are boring as cupcakes!

The mi band has hardly changed from the mi Band 4.. It remains an elongated oval shaped pellet that sits within the silicone band. And If previously you would charge the tracker by popping it out of the silicone strap, now you do it for purposes like changing the strap, since Xiaomi has finally decided to provide a magnetic pin charger which clips onto the back of the band.

Galaxy Fit 2 is also quite bland, the dimensions are almost identical to that of mi band, except for the fact te FIT 2 has a more rectangular design. And the face of the tracker also pops out of the silicone strap just like the Mi Band 5.

Let’s touch upon straps.. both feature soft silicone band, unfortunately they arent the generic type, so dif ccolours and maetrials can only be bought from official retailers. The clasp is a clip on on the Mi Band 5 and clip and tuck on Fit 2… neither are super easy to put on during exercise.. but at least they feel comfortable when you finally do get them onto your wrist!

Display

Disregard the pellet designs and note the actual displays… both are rectangular and 1.1″ when measured diagonally. For trackers this size.. the 1.1″ is a good effort, but I just cant see why they couldnt be stretched out further… the AMOLED display resolution is identical at 126 by 294px.

Both screens are touch activated, with a capacitative button just below the screen. Both displays manage to keep similar amount of smudgee from your finger tips, so a good wipe is needed often.

Both displays are very bright and offer deep blacks, bright colours and offer easy visibility in practicvally all light conditions Inside or out!

The Fit 2 has just over 70 watch face styles you can download from the app, while the the Mi Band 5 has much more. And if the Fit 2 faces are quite greedy in terms of data you can put on the screen.. the Mi Band 5 takes this round with ease! Not only are the faces customizable you can choose which data you want to showcase!

No auto brightness available on either of the bands but the Fit 2 does have 10 brightness levels as opposed to the 5 on Mi Band 5.

The main difference of operating the trackers lie in the direction of swpes. if the Fit2 takes around it’s functionality from left to right, the Mi Band 5 takes you for spin with vertical swipes.

Let’s touch on basic Features and Functions and then get to the differences between the 2 trackers

Battery life is similar on both devices with typical usage claimed by the manufacturers in aexess of 2 weeks. Don’tbelieve these values, you’ll be lucky to squeeze out 8-10 days from each.

Let’s call out the similarities and the overlaps. So, as would be expected these bands can track your Heart rate, calculate calories burnt during the day and during activities. you get the usual timer and stopwatch, alarms, weather widgets bringing in the latest forecast from your smartphone. Step counters are accurate on both. music controllers are also available here.

So both trackers cover the basics well, now lets touch on the good stuff!

What about Sleep tracking. As we all know, recovery happens while we sleep. And lukily both trackers monitor all 3 sleep stages: light, deep and REM sleep.

Both trackers are waterprooff up to 50m so jumping in the pool is no issues with these ones. But the Mi Band 5 is just that little more user friendly and you can customize pool length right from your watch face

the Fit 2 has a huge range of sport modes available from the Samsung Fit app, and you can store upto 10 as favourites on your watch. The Mi Band 5 has 11 sports available and these are not adjustable. Also, the Mi Band 5 is capable of auto detecting either running or walking while the Galaxy Fit 2 is capable of auto recognizing 5 workouts. These are rowing, elliptical training, dynamic workouts at the gym or in the park, walking and running.

Both also have a stress monitor, but I find the Mi Band 5 to have betteer graphics here, it just looks more cool!

So whhere are the gaps? they cant be identical can they? Well, the gaps are minor.. Mi Band 5 gives you a guided breathing app that will calm and relax you during the day, but the Fit 2 counters that with a hands washing monitor and reminder throughout the day.. Also, the Fit 2 has additional smarts that allow for quick replies to incoming text messages.

Another gap is the PAI metric, basically the Mi Band being part of the Huami group tracks your cardiovascular health with a revolutionary PAI metric… a single number that can monitor your exercises, heart rate, steps taken to identify how fit your respiratory system is.

So wwho ar thesee trackers for? And which one do you choose?

These trackers are great for the casual exerciser, if you want to know your step count and heart rate and maybe some basic health metrics from your activities then these 2 trackers are your best bet in 2020. Both offer auto activity detction.. both are waterproof.. the Fit 2 has more port profiles available but that’s more of a gimmick since both tracckers do not offer goal based training. The trackers have connected GPS only hence, you would need your phone on those long runs to calculate distance and speed!

Both are super value deals, the price points are very low for the amount of advanced tech you get!
