Software Approval for Calculating the New Energy Efficient Home Tax Credit
The Inflation Reduction Act of 2022 (IRA) extended and modified the New Energy Efficient Home tax credit (45L tax credit). As a result, the software approval process for certification of homes acquired prior to 1/1/2023 differs from the software approval process for certification of homes acquired on or after 1/1/2023.
For homes acquired prior to 1/1/2023, this website contains the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Approved Software List, which lists software for use in verifying compliance with the energy-efficiency requirements for the old 45L tax credit.
For homes acquired on or after 1/1/2023, this website provides information on the software approval process (by recognized ZERH Certification Organization) as it applies under the updated 45L tax credit. Because the updated 45L tax credit (as modified by the IRA) references certification under the ENERGY STAR Residential New Construction Program or the Department of Energy Zero Energy Ready Home program as the energy savings requirement for homes acquired on or after 1/1/2023, this website provides information on the software approval process that is already established within the certification requirements for these programs.
