Solved: "windows has determined the driver software for your device is up to date" | Experts Exchange

I have a USB based touchscreen that worked fine up until about 2 weeks ago. The device now shows up in device manager as an unknown device. Updating the device driver by pointing to the mfg’s INF file results in the above ‘error’:

Windows has determined the driver software for your device is up to date

And the device remains ‘unknown’.

Steps taken so far:

1. Reinstall Driver letting windows choose
2. Reinstall Driver from specific location
3. Use mfg’s install/setup routine
4. Remove All USB devices (Hubs/Roots) from Device manager and let windows rebuild per :
5. repeat 2
6. change the physical location of the touchscreens motherboard connection (this is a 46″ touchscreen, it is “hardwired” to the motherboard in the same location you would add additional USB cards.).
7. repeat 2
8. Complete win7 reinstall.
9. repeat 2

There is an error on the device in all instances error (43): Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems

Is there a way I can STOP windows from installing it’s dummy driver and forcing me to keep it? The device is brand new ~1 month and it certainly WAS working.

thanks

My ultimate goal here is to force Windows to change a driver that it reports to be “up to date”.I have a USB based touchscreen that worked fine up until about 2 weeks ago.
