The video game continuity for Sword Art Online which exists as an Alternate Continuity from the original story of the light novels/anime. Published by Bandai Namco Entertainment (the same company that published the .hack games), they feature a third person role-playing gameplay, with the majority of games having Kirito as the Player Character. Fatal Bullet is the first game which offers a customizable player.

The games have been released on an annual basis since 2013 and has spanned the majority of story arcs for the main series, along with some original story lines.

    List of games featured

  • Sword Art Online: Infinity Moment for the PSP.
  • Sword Art Online: Hollow Fragment for the PS Vita and a social network game for Japanese smart phones called Sword Art Online: End World. Hollow Fragment includes an enhanced version of Infinity Moment and was released outside of Japan to Asia with PSN releases in the Americas, Europe and Oceania.
    • Sword Art Online Re: Hollow Fragment is an Updated Re-release for the Playstation 4 and arrived in summer 2015 in Europe and North America. Notably, it features a vastly better translation than the PS Vita version. A PC version was later available early 2018 as a Pre-Order Bonus for Fatal Bullet, and months later, it was sold separately.
  • Sword Art Online: Lost Song, Asia-wide release in early-mid 2015, with a European and North American release in November 2015 for the PS Vita and Playstation 4. A PC version was later released in late 2018. Lost Song is a direct sequel to Hollow Fragment and takes place in Alfheim Online.
  • Sword Art Online: Hollow Realization, released for the PS Vita and Playstation 4 on October 2016 in Japan and November 2016 everywhere else, with a PC release worldwide in October 2017. A Nintendo Switch version was later released in 2019. A sequel to Lost Song, it takes place in a new VRMMO called “Sword Art: Origin” which appears to be eerily similar to Aincrad.
  • Accel World VS Sword Art Online: Millennium Twilight, a video game crossover with Accel World based in ALO for the PS Vita and Playstation 4 released in Japan during March 2017 and in the west in July 2017.
  • Sword Art Online: Fatal Bullet, a third-person shooter role-playing game released in February 2018 worldwide for Playstation 4, XBOX One, and PC, with a Nintendo Switch version released in 2019. A sequel to Hollow Realization, it takes place in Gun Gale Online and uniquely does not have Kirito as the main character, but a player-created avatar filling the role.
  • Sword Art Online: Integral Factor, a free to play MMO for mobile devices. It adapts the Aincrad arc starting from Floor 1 and gradually exploring every floor one-by-one (Infinity Moment/Hollow Fragment started at Floor 75). It allows playing as a player-created avatar rather than Kirito. It is set in its own Alternate Continuity from both the canon and the other gameverse timelines.
  • Sword Art Online: Alicization Lycoris, released for Playstation 4, XBOX One, and PC in July 2020. Unlike the preceding games, this game was announced as a straight adaptation of the Alicization anime (and by extension, the light novel)… which was completely false, as the game’s story diverges massively from the source material in its second half due to the actions of original character Medina Orthinanos.
