Google Doodle games are fun diversions and this Halloween’s Google Doodle game is good, frantic fun.
This Halloween’s Doodle is a new take on 2018’s Great Ghoul Duel, a competitive outing for up to eight players. This time around there are “even more unpredictable tricks and treats this time around—including new characters, game maps, special powers-ups, and more!”
You can play with randoms online or host your own game with friends or family. Here’s how it works:
Two teams square off against one another on several random, spooky Halloween maps. You’re either on Team Purple or Team Green.
Each little avatar has to zip around the map using a mouse or keyboard keys and gather as many spirit flames as possible. These glob onto you in the form of an increasingly long tail.
Gather these spirit flames and hurry them back to your home-base to rack up the high score. The trick is getting there without having your spirit flames stolen by enemy players. You can also steal their flames, of course.
Stealing is pretty simple. Just run into the tail of an enemy player and all the spirit flames you hit will go over to you. Of course, while it’s pretty easy to steal from an enemy, it’s hard to avoid having your own stolen.
In the first match I played we were down by a couple dozen spirit flames but myself and another player raced into our home base at the very last second. The other player was carrying the longest stream of spirit flames I’d seen the entire match, and we ended up winning by a pretty large margin—but only just barely.
