10. Arena of Valor
The first time I took a look at this game, it looked like a cheap LoL rip-off, but after a closer look, I realized that this game is truly a hidden gem – my favorite champion was Gildur, he’s more of a tanky, mage class that generates a shield every time he uses a spell, can easily catch up to you thanks to Siege and he’s also a complete and utter permastunner – his ultimate revolves around spamming some golden shards and chainstunning opponents for at least 5000 years. That’s just 1 champion, in terms of game mechanics, they’re pretty similar to games like DOTA2/LoL and other MOBAs, but it is unique in terms of abilities and teamwork!
9. Battlerite
This game differentiates itself from other MOBAS cuz of the fact that it requires you to use WSAD keys – other MOBAs focus more on right-clicking. The graphics are cartoonish and I love the general style of the map – simplistic and pretty.
The game is extremely competitive and at times will leave you with an aching heart and make each victory give massive amounts of euphoria!
The game doesn’t have a massive player base, but you can still find yourself a game and have plenty of fun!
8. Awesomenauts
What’s Awesomenauts? A 2D, 3v3 game where you have to destroy the Solar Collector of your enemies – in LoL terms, it’s nexus, in Dota 2 terms, it’s Ancient, etc.
What I like about this game is that it takes little time to come up with strategies and games are pretty fast-paced. You don’t have to worry about whether you can run this game or not, since like I previously mentioned, it’s a bloody 2D game! Plenty of fun and competitive – try it out.
7. Heroes of the Storm
Made by Blizzard back in 2015, does the game still have players? Of course, it does! Some people also say that this game is not MOBA, some say that it is – I don’t care, it made me furious and it’s similar to other MOBAs that I’ve played.
It’s also pretty fast-paced and you don’t have to spend the first 20 minutes on some boring last-hitting or getting harassed under the tower. You also don’t have to worry about losing gold when dying or spending money on wards, etc – it’s action-oriented and that’s why I loved it!
6. Heroes of Newerth
This will be a rather sad story, about a MOBA game that was released in 2010 and will be closed on the 20th of June, 2022, thus, if you are a veteran player or a newbie, you should deeply consider playing this game while it still lasts.
The game has pretty old, but up-to-date graphics and a similar map to Dota 2(NOT CALLING IT A RIP-OFF!), and a long list of awesome heroes that you can play. Teamfights can be pretty lengthy and intense and this is obviously one of the more teamwork-oriented games, so please, don’t be too much of a solo player!
5. League of Legends: Wild Rift
Is your PC at least 30 years old? You can’t run Tetris, let alone Minecraft? It’s a shame, but if you have a phone, you can play LoL: Wild Rift. What is that game exactly? It’s a game that you can play on your phone – hooray. The game is similar to League of Legends, with massive changes to movement and minor changes to game mechanics.
So if you can’t bring your PC with you on the bus or to work, worry not, you can play this game on your phone and smash it on the ground due to the anger you’ve developed from playing too many MOBA games!
4. Smite
One thing that you might like about Smite is its third-person camera view and for some reason, it makes each encounter with the enemy epic and tenser with each passing second. The game has many champions and many abilities that synergize and are fun to use on your poor opponents.
The game is awesome and still popular, thus you don’t have to worry about this game’s player base going anywhere, anytime soon!
3. Paladins
We have discussed top-down games, third-person games, but we haven’t discussed… first-person MOBA games! And that’s exactly what this game delivers. Epic battles between champions with even more awesome abilities that can synergize with yours. Pick your champions right and PTFO(Play The F’ing Objective), that way you won’t be flamed.
Some champions are easier than others, some are pretty OP and it’s up to you whether you’ll follow the meta or not – try the game out, it’s awesome and still relatively popular!
2. League of Legends
So you decided to visit the deepest parts of hell? Welcome to LoL, this game is gonna make you hate people from all over the world and question your life choices – this game is also highly addictive, so once you’re in, you are IN. Is the game worth it? Hell yeah, it’s worth it, the game has a long history and a LONG list of unlockable champions with unique abilities. The game won’t get boring due to how many scenarios can happen within a single game – it’s pretty much infinite.
I’ve played it for some amount of time and enjoyed it, but I’ve always stayed loyal to my one and only…
1. Dota 2
My Dotka. My childhood game, the cause of my mental health problems, my anger, and severe anxiety – how much I’ve missed you. Why haven’t I been playing you for so long? It’s because I could no longer play Magnus on the middle lane. It was too painful to make a mistake, it was too unbearable to miss an RP and let my teammates down…
The game no longer brought me joy, but performance anxiety. The amount of time I’ve dedicated to this game is at least 8,000 hours. I loved it, I remember being a rather diverse player and playing on top, bot, middle, as a roamer, as a jungler, I’ve witnessed different metas rise and fall, killed many Roshans, and stole many “Cheeses”. It’s a great game with incredible up-to-par graphics and epic, colorful gameplay with unique heroes and their voice lines.
The game is truly incredible and made my adolescence a fun experience. Try this game and enjoy it when you’re a scrub because eventually, you’ll stop enjoying this game.
