We’ve simply chosen a favorite–Lego The Lord of the Rings. In this game, players work together as part of The Fellowship during their quest to destroy the One Ring.
Being a Lego-based game, the narrative is toned down for a wider audience. Meanwhile, the gameplay mixes in button mashing to defeat enemies and plenty of puzzles to solve throughout the campaign. The gameplay is simplistic and involves defeating enemies along with solving some puzzles that will allow the players to progress further into the campaign. The experience is quite soothing and visually appealing, and while it’s a more quiet and laid-back experience, it’s a breath of fresh air.
You might find this game to be a bit less baffling with the help of another player. Unfortunately, this is a single-player video game experience–but the game is all about looking at puzzles from multiple perspectives. It’s a perfect title to hand the controller back and forth.

With a map that doesn’t offer any guidance, players will have to figure out not only where to go, but where they are currently located. As mentioned, survival is a big part of this game as well–the world is harsh and you’ll need to monitor your vitals, ensuring your character is not thirsty and has the right gear equipped for the season.
Outside of that, the combat is broken up between utilizing melee-style weapons and spellcasting. So far, two DLC expansions have been introduced to add more content into the world of Outward.

#4 Lovers in a Dangerous Spacetime
Release Date: September 9, 2015 | Platform: PC, PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Switch
Camera: Third Person
Multiplayer: No
Co-op: (Local: 4 | Online: No)
Genre: Action, Indie, Space, Cute, 2D
PC | Xbox | PlayStation | Nintendo
Lovers in a Dangerous Spacetime is an indie hit and a very simple game to understand, but as the game progresses, it’s extremely difficult to master. In this game, players are in command of a spaceship where they must explore the galaxy. However, it’s not always that easy, as there are different enemies and hazards you’ll have to face on your trip. Being a big ship, there are several stations located around that make it difficult to quickly move to another area. That’s where having co-op available will come in handy, as multiple players can jump around the ship and maintain attributes such as weapons, shields, and engines.
As you progress you’ll have the ability to make upgrades to give your ship a unique load-out. Furthermore, the levels are randomized so you can always find something new to explore each time you start the game up. However, much like other titles on this list, you can add more than just two players to this game. Developers Asteroid Base has made this title to support up to four players.

Portal 2 offers players a new collection of levels to complete. With the use of a Portal Gun, players can create wormholes that connect. It’s a bit difficult to explain in writing, but once you see some footage you’ll immediately understand the gameplay premise. These levels will have players thinking outside of the box and it can be quite challenging.

You can still play with someone who owns it without having it yourself so long as you are playing with that person. You’ll definitely want to take advantage of this compelling story with a good buddy.

This is a physics-based puzzle platformer where players take on the role of a humanoid character who can freely explore the world and attempt to reach new areas by grabbing objects, moving them around, and working with other players. Unravel is a unique platformer where players control a character made of yarn. To maneuver around the levels and obstacles, players need to ensure that they have enough yarn unraveled and free from any snags. It was during E3 2018 that we received the surprise release of Unravel Two, a new installment that takes the same core gameplay mechanics and adds a secondary player option. Now with two characters, you’ll need to work together to complete another difficult series of puzzles and hostile environments.
With a limited amount of yarn restricting their movement, the game mixes puzzle elements with platforming. It’s a fun little series, though sadly, it doesn’t look like we’ll be getting an Unravel Three.
