Oppo updated its software update policy in 2021, increasing the support period for some of its devices. The move saw the company join the list of Android manufacturers with the best software support. It was meant to make Oppo’s update policy flush with other competing brands like Samsung and OnePlus.
According to the new policy, its high-end Find X series devices (excluding the Find X Lite and Neo models) will receive four years of security updates and three major Android updates. The Oppo Reno, K, and F series lines will also receive four years of security updates but with two major platform updates.
Select phones in the entry-level A series may receive one major update, but all the devices will get three years of security updates.

Oppo has a simplified update policy, unlike most of the competition. However, just like other OEMs with identical support periods, not all Oppo devices are eligible to receive extended support. Here are the select Oppo smartphones that will receive four years of security updates and either two or three major Android updates:
- Oppo Find X series: Find X3, X3 Pro, X3 Pro Mars Exploration Edition, X2, X2 Pro, X2 Pro Lamborghini Edition, X2 League of Legends S10 Limited Edition
- Oppo Reno series: Reno 7, 6, and 5 series phones
- Oppo F series
- Oppo K series
While all of these devices are slated to receive four years of security updates, Oppo has not specified the frequency of the updates. Our guide on updating your Android phone goes into more detail on how to check for updates and how to install one when it’s available.
Security updates fix any discovered flaws and bugs to guarantee the safety of your data. But shaming companies for their selectivity when it comes to updates is not fair because security updates are also dependent on the underlying hardware.
Smartphone companies have often made extended software support a premium feature, but it doesn’t have to be so. Samsung has led the way with changes to its own update policy, and shows that the situation is slowly improving.
