All the music you want, in a tube
Providing unending hours of music, YouTube Music offers access to it vast catalog of melodies for free – think Spotify with videos. However, if you want its premium features – watching ad-free or offline music – you will have to sign up for YouTube Red at a cost of $9.99 USD a month.
It’s all on the tube
As its name makes quite clear, YouTube Music is designed solely for music videos – but otherwise incorporates all of YouTube’s standard social hooks. It lets you watch any video, album, or artist. Plus, once started, it begins a non-stop music station that continues to play music until you get bored.
Over time it will build stations to better suit your tastes and, with Google behind the scenes, you can bet they already have a pretty good idea of what you are into. As part of this personalized service, YouTube Music’s home tab features tracks selected just for you.
Accompanying your home tab, other sections highlight new, trending, rising, and The Daily Top 40… so plenty of PSY, Taylor Swift, and Adele there . But if you want to dig into musical history then do not worry, YouTube’s selection of tunes span decades and has all of your favorite artists’ full albums, videos, remixes, live performances, and more.
Seeing red
While the basic trial version of YouTube Music will be enough for some, the real benefits only appear when you incorporate a YouTube Red subscription. You get a 14 day free trial of this service, but after that you will need to start paying the $9.99 USD monthly subscription.
For this you get access to ad-free content and the ability to listen to music offline – providing you have it stored on your device. It also provides the option to stream and save only the music – removing the need to download an accompanying video.
The subscription also entitles you to YoutTube Red’s other services, including various paid exclusive shows from some of the platforms top content creators – yes, including PewDiePie.
Please don’t stop the music
The free version of YouTube Music is great for users just wanting to watch music videos at home. If you are on the move, however, and want to use it in a similar fashion to other music services, then that YouTube Red subscription is a must.
Of course, at $9.99 a month, this is competing with multiple other music and video platforms. While the combined service of Red and Music could be great value for some, those who are already invested in other platforms may want to think twice before committing.
