Are Those Moon Coin Faucets Worth Your Time? Day 2 — Steemit
With crypto prices down in the dumps, I am wondering if it might not be worth it to start using coin faucets to pick up a little bit of free coinage. Now, I know that the legitimate sites only reward you with TINY micro payments of crypto; but I want to know how quickly those tiny amounts can add up if one is diligent in claiming them.
The faucets that I will be using for this test are the Moon Bitcoin, Dogecoin, Litecoin, and Dash faucets. If you’re interested in following along, here are links to my previous posts detailing how much I have made each day:
I made my faucet claims twice, today: once this morning before work and again when I got home, this evening. Let’s see if that made a difference.

Moon Bitcoin
I made my first claim of the day this morning before work.
Morning Claim
I made my first claim of the day this morning before work.
Afternoon Claim
As you can see, I made my first claim after a little over 13 hours of wait time and my second after about 12 hours, but both claims were for the same base amount of 98 Satoshi. After bonuses, my totals were 166 (hooray for Mystery Bonus) and 120 Satoshi for a total of 286 Satoshi over a 25:00:08 time period.
Let’s Do The Math:
Day 1:
21 (hr) x 60(min) = 1260 min + 52 min = 1312 min
7 (sec) ÷ 60 (min) = 0.12 min
Total Time: 1312.12 min
Total Time: 1312.12 min
169 Satoshi ÷ 1312.12 min = 0.128799195 Satoshi/min
Day 2:
25 (hr) x 60 (min) = 1500 min
8 (sec) ÷ 60 (min) – 0.13 min
Total Time: 1500.13 min
Total Time: 1500.13 min
286 Satoshi ÷ 1500.13 = 0.190650144 Satoshi/min
So, by cutting my wait time in half, I was able to see an increased rate of return on the Bitcoin Faucet.
Moon Dogecoin
Morning Claim
Afternoon Claim
My will be very similar for all 4 sets of tokens, because I make all of my claims right in a row. My morning Doge base claim was 0.46 and my afternoon base claim was 0.44, but I ended up with a total of 1.15 DOGE over a 25:00:26 time period.
Lets do the math:
Day 1
21 (hr) x 60 (min) = 1260 min + 50 min = 1310 min
52(sec) ÷ 60 min = 0.87 min
Total Time: 1310.87 min
Total Time: 1310.87 min
0.56 DOGE ÷ 1310.87 min = .000427197 Doge/min
Day 2
25 (hr) x 60 (min) = 1500 min
26 (sec) ÷ 60 (min) = 0.43 min
Total Time = 1500.43
Total Time = 1500.43
1.15 Doge ÷ 1500.43 min = .000766447 DOGE/min
So, the claim rate for the Doge fountain also increased when I cut my wait time roughly in half. This is looking promising.
Moon Litecoin
Morning Claim
Afternoon Claim
Again, the wait times are similar to the previous two data sets. My morning base claim was 4590 Litoshi, and my afternoon base claim was 4471 Litoshi. After bonuses, I ended up with 11,302 over a 25:00:39 time period (thanks to another big Mystery Bonus!)
Let’s Do The Math:
Day 1
21 (hr) x 60 (min) = 1260 min + 51 min = 1311 min
8 (sec) ÷ 60 (min) = 0.13 min
Total Time: 1311.13 min
Total Time: 1311.13 min
5489 Litoshi ÷ 1311.13 min = 4.186465110 Litoshi/min
Day 2
25 (hr) x 60 (min) = 1500 min
39 (sec) ÷ 60 (min) = 0.65 min
Total Time: 1500.65 min
Total Time: 1500.65 min
11302 Litoshi ÷ 1500.65 min = 7.531403059 Litoshi/min
11302 Litoshi ÷ 1500.65 min = 7.531403059 Litoshi/min
So, by halving my wait time, I almost doubled my claim rate on the Litecoin fountain!
Moon Dash
Note that the Dash fountain doesn’t display your wait time since your last claim; however, the times will be similar to the previous three data sets.

Morning Claim
Afternoon Claim
My base claims were 0.00003455 for the morning and 0.00003477 for the afternoon. Unfortunately, I lack the data to calculate a per-minute rate for the Dash faucet, but my all-day claim totaled 0.00010457 Dash thanks to a couple of big Mystery Bonuses.
Conclusion
Obviously, these faucets work on an algorithm that rewards more frequent participation by slowing down your per-minute claim rate more and more the longer you wait to stake you claim. Looking at my data for today, I feel like I am still on the back end of that taper. I noticed that an extra hour or so of wait time resulted in very little change to the base claim.
Since tomorrow is Saturday, and I will be home all day, I plan on cutting my wait times in half again (claiming every ~6 hours) to see if my per-minute claim rate continues to increase.
