DJ Mag Top 100 2018 Results Announced

NEWS

In case you’ve managed to dodge the unstoppable march of the internet hate brigade over the last 24 hours, here’s a chance to catch up; DJ Mag have revealed this year’s Top 100 DJs results.

The results were announced at a live event on Saturday October 20 in Amsterdam’s AreA venue. As always, the results are acutely EDM-centric and really not likely to reflect your own personal tastes in electronic music at all.

Martin Garrix, who was spotted across billboards during Amsterdam Dance Event advertising his new Axe scent, won for the third year running. Fellow top 10 acts include previous number one acts Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike, Hardwell, Armin van Buuren and Tiësto plus the likes of David Guetta, Don Diablo, Afrojack, Oliver Heldens and Marshmello.

As is standard with this annual poll, many DJs and fans have taken to Twitter to show their disapproval and cynicism as most genres and styles are poorly represented. D&B, for instance, only gets a look in thanks to Andy C’s position at 90, which, sadly, is down 13 places from last year’s spot at 77.

Even techno, probably the biggest and most popular underground genre in electronic music, is arguably under represented with Carl Cox at 53, Richie Hawtin at 61, Adam Beyer just scratching the 70s at 79, Solomun at 91 and Nina Kravitz at 97. In terms of much wider bass music, it is nice to see Skrillex repping at 21… Even though a substantial part of 2018 has been time off for the OWSLA bossman.

A few things most fans can agree on, however, include Eric Prydz continuing to surge up the poll and now at his highest position in the Top 100 ever at 20 and that there are a variety of names that absolutely no one recognises (Mariana Bo and Mike Williams anyone?)

Of course it’s easy to join the internet hate brigade but did you vote? Apparently 1.2 million people did around the world (200,000 up on last year according to DJ Mag) We didn’t. We were too busy voting in the Drum&BassArena Awards. You can, too. The first round of votes closes a week today on October 29… And we suspect the internet hate brigade will march out once again when the nominations are announced.
