Eclipse for Elden Ring

Free-to-use visual mod for Elden Ring

Eclipse is a free utility created for the open-world adventure, Elden Ring. This small and specific add-on introduces a minor change to your gaming experience. The mod changes the game’s color into an “eclipse” mode. Instead of the naturally vibrant and colorful world, you play the game in a high-contrast monochrome preset with red highlights and a few golds scattered around.

More than being a visual modification, Eclipse simplifies the gameplay experience and provides a visual aesthetic that better suits the bleak world across The Lands Between. Other mods for the FromSoftware title include Elden Ring Seamless Co-Op Mod.

Explore a darker Lands Between

The Eclipse mode introduces a small change with a large impact on the game. Instead of the blue skies and vividly colorful surroundings, you get to explore The Lands Between in mostly black and white. Light sources are mostly changed to red, which creates an even more unsettling atmosphere. With the mod activated, the high-resolution world feels visually similar to films like Sin City.

For the file size, its minor change means it comes in a small file size of only 35KB. It’s also easy to deploy, especially if you use mod loaders designed for the game. It’s worth noting that it only changes the color grading, the quality and level of detail are retained. While it doesn’t directly change any gameplay mechanics, physics, or stats, it does affect the experience.

Speaking of the effect on its experience, it makes the game visibly darker, with enemies becoming generally harder to spot without the Camera Lock-On control. This adds to the challenge, especially with hidden enemies like the Imps that are camouflaged and often hiding in off-angles. Other than the conditional difficulty spike, there are no issues with conflicts or optimization for this app.

Elden Ring in pen-and-ink

If you’re looking for a greater immersion in the dark and bleak world of Elden Ring, loading the Eclipse mod is a good place to start. Its monochrome color grade with red lighting makes for an effective noir or pen-and-ink visual that adds to the dramatic effect. Of course, with the reduced colors comes increased difficulty. The awesome visual effect far outweighs the difficulty in an already difficult game.
