FVS Software Complete Package

This FVS Software Complete Package includes a graphical user interface, which includes the Stand Visualization, a spatial “Maps” feature that displays FVS simulation results aligned with stand polygon data, and powerful graphing and table-creation capabilities. It also includes the latest FVS Variant files and sample data. It covers all Regions of the National Forest System.

You may update prior installations of the FVS Software Installation Package by simply re-installing it using the newer installation program..

Installation Instructions

The FVS Software Installation Package is a single executable that will install the standard suite of programs included with FVS. Installing all the components will require more than 310 MB of hard drive space and take about 10-15 minutes to install.

Install Notes

When you install new software using the FVS Software Installation Package file, any program files from previous installations in the “C:\FVS” and “C:\FVS\Project_1” folders will be overwritten. All other existing project folders in “C:\FVS\” created during previous runs will not be overwritten during installation.
Installing the new FVS Software Installation Package does not uninstall/overwrite the legacy FVS software installation. If the legacy FVS software is currently installed, users will have two desktop icons: FVS and Suppose, for the new FVS Software and Suppose, respectively
Depending on your security settings, you may need Administrative Privileges to Install / Uninstall FVS software.

Install the FVS Software Complete Package

To install the current FVS Software Complete Package software, perform the following steps.

Click the link for the FVS Software Installation Package file in the table above to begin downloading it.
When prompted, Save the file to a location on your local computer (remember where you save it).
When the executable has finished downloading, choose to open the installation executable by clicking the “Open” button. If you do not have this option, navigate to the directory where you specified the file be saved and double-click on the executable. Either option will begin the installation process.
Following a splash screen, click the “Next” button to install the FVS Software Installation Package.
When installation is finished, click the “Finish” button. You have installed the FVS Software Installation Package programs and example data!

Remove FVS Software

To uninstall the software that was installed using the FVS Software Installation Package, perform the following steps.

Navigate through the Control Panel to the utility that allows you to remove programs. This could be the Programs / Uninstall or Change a Program utility (Windows 10), or the Programs / Uninstall a Program utility (Windows Vista, 7, and 8).
Select the file to remove: “Forest Vegetation Simulator version ********“. Click the “Uninstall” button. You may have to do this more than once if multiple instances exist.
Once you have removed previous versions you can continue to install the new software.
