Reddit – Dive into anything
Here is a diagram
And here is my code
#include <SoftwareSerial.h> SoftwareSerial mySerial(2, 3); //RX, TX void setup() { Serial.begin(9600); mySerial.begin(9600); } void loop() { if (mySerial.available()) { Serial.print(mySerial.read()); } else { Serial.print("\nNOTHING"); } }
My goal right now is to simply print what’s coming in from the sensor to the Arduino’s serial monitor. Then I want to read the sensor data into a variable and parse the data and go from there.
However, I never get anything from mySerial.
One note, I guess this sensor has the TX go to the arduino’s TX, and RX to arduino’s RX. Also, I am able to read data from the sensor when I upload a blank sketch to the arduino and connect directly to the hardware serial port on the arduino.

EDIT: Ok……update. I switched the TX and RX pins on the arduino and got something:
NOTHING NOTHING367180 *** LOTS OF NUMBERS BUT DELETED DUE TO PROBABLY BEING GPS COORDINATES *** 110 NOTHING
I guess my next question is……using the hardware serial port it was giving me strings before the signicant data, like
$GPLL
How do I get those?

EDIT 2: Ok I stored the data from mySerial into a char and then printed the char variable to the serial monitor. Much better, but still get some weird stuff in between transmission:
