Sword Art Online: Every Game World In The Anime, Ranked

The worlds in the Sword Art Online anime are highly regarded, and for good reason. Here they all are, ranked.

In Sword Art Online, a game or virtual world might be a refuge from the actual world. Virtual reality games can be incredibly immersive, but not all of them are like what gamers expect. Come along with Kirito and Asuna as they explore a wide range of video game worlds, each with its own set of challenges and perils.

All anime fans, new and old, will find something to enjoy in Sword Art Online, from the fantastical land of Aincrad to the cyberpunk metropolis of Gun Gale Online. Even though virtual reality games and the unknown are fun, players are warned that if they enter that realm, they could die in the real world.

Alfheim Online

Alfheim SAO world

Asuna and Kirito’s second gaming experience was Alfheim Online, which had a similar theme to SAO but none of the real-world consequences of dying in-game. One might assume Kirito would be afraid of entering another virtual reality game world after barely escaping the terrifying SAO VRMMORPG. Asuna’s soul and mind had been transferred and were being held captive in Alfheim Online. Therefore, he had to go there to rescue her.

To put it simply, Alfheim Online is a magical fairy realm. It’s made up of numerous magical races that have diverse degrees of skill with each element. Once players discovered they could fly, airborne conflicts became just as prevalent as land warfare as they experimented with the game’s many features. The foundational code of Alfheim Online was derived from that of SAO, making the two games highly comparable. To meet Fairy King Oberon, players had to climb to the summit of the World Tree.

Ordinal Scale

Ordinal Scale World sao

Consider a location where reality and fantasy merge. In the form of Ordinal Scale, the first ARMMORPG (Augmented Reality Massively Multiplayer Online Role-Playing Game), the SAO series made this a reality. Ordinal Scale, a pioneering game, effectively fused virtual reality with real life by employing Augma, a cutting-edge augmented reality console that followed in the footsteps of the Amusphere, which was used for Alfheim Online, and NerveGear, which was used for Sword Art Online.

Wearing augmented reality glasses brings virtual images into the actual world, allowing players to engage in challenges by physically moving around the real world as virtual monsters appear in different areas. The game’s idol AI, Yuna, was created especially for Ordinal Scale, and she was just one of several special features. However, despite the rich variety of the SAO universe, there were hidden mysteries that put the friendships of its former players to the test.

Sword Art Online

Aincrad SAO game world

Sword Art Online, or SAO for short, was a groundbreaking virtual reality massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG) that utilized full-immersion NerveGear technology. The technology allowed people to experience a simulated world in which they could use skills and fight against monsters. The game’s success can be attributed in large part to the stunning realism of its environments. When players realized they were stuck in the game and couldn’t quit, though, their opinions shifted dramatically. Furthermore, if they died in-game, they would be killed off in real life.

It would be necessary to win the game in order to exit. The players had to conquer the 100 floors of the floating castle, Aincrad. Every floor is its own world, with its own climate, geography, and ecology. Furthermore, players would have to defeat a floor boss with several HP bars and special skills in order to progress through each level.

Gun Gale Online

Gun Gale Online game world

Gun Gale Online (often known as GGO) was a hit among Sword Art Online enthusiasts because it took a different tack than SAO and Alfheim Online. In contrast to SAO and Alfheim Online’s fantastical magical elements, GGO’s cyberpunk setting relies on modern weaponry and combat techniques. Various post-apocalyptic wasteland zones serve as the playing field for GGO’s player versus player and player versus mutated monster battles.

GGO’s biggest draw is the multiplayer competition, Bullet of Bullets (BoB). BoB is the most well-known and largest player-versus-player competition in GGO, and it regularly draws players of all skill levels. Kirito, the protagonist of the Sword Art Online anime series, shifted his virtual reality gaming account to GGO so he could compete in the BoB tournaments. Kirito, more at home with a sword than a rifle, chose the unusual photon sword over the more common firearms employed in GGO. Although the photon sword was his primary weapon, he also employed a semiautomatic handgun.

Underworld

Underworld sao game world

The Underworld is unlike any of the other Sword Art Online game worlds since it is a virtual reality setting where the top-secret government project, Project Aliciazation, is being carried out. The goal of Project Aliciazation is to build A.L.I.C.E., which stands for Artificial Labile Intelligent Cybernated Existence. A.L.I.C.E. is a very flexible artificial intelligence that is meant to take over human roles in war and reduce human casualties.

The artificial fluctlights (souls) of the AI are nurtured and developed in the underworld. Underworld is a realistic MMORPG with fantastical elements, just like its contemporaries. Despite being governed by AI, institutions such as schools and churches have been established as the AIs mature and evolve like humans with distinct personalities.
