Taipei City Government-City News-Taipei, New Taipei Mayors Attend World Masters Games Committee Meeting
Mayor Ko Wen-je and New Taipei City Mayor Hou Yu-ih attended the fourth organizational committee meeting for the 2025 World Masters Games on December 13. The 2025 World Masters Game is co-hosted by both Taipei City Government and New Taipei Government. The event will be held between May 17 and 30, 2025.
During his address, Ko announced that the World Masters Games Organizational Committee has confirmed a total of 35 competition categories taking place across 66 venues. The respective venues have begun maintenance and upgrade operations.
He called upon individuals 30 or older who look forward to competing in the event to start training. The mayor also noted that representatives from the International Masters Games Association have already inspected the ongoing preparations in November and are pleased by the progress. The flag presentation ceremony has also been held, confirming that the 2025 World Masters Games will be the first time for the event to take place in Asia.
Ko stressed that the establishment of the organizational committee and the flag presentation ceremony have been completed during his term. The next part of preparations will be left to Mayor Hou and mayor-elect Chiang Wan-an. He hopes that the other four partner municipalities – Taoyuan City, Hsinchu County, Hsinchu City, and Yilan County – will work together to make the 2025 World Masters Games a success.
At the end of his speech, the mayor expressed his gratitude to those attending the meeting. He reminded them that inspecting progress on a regular basis is important for preparations to proceed as scheduled.
Mayor Hou remarked that preparations are moving along, and he accompanied the competition director on visits to venues across the different municipalities. The mayor of New Taipei is confident that the upcoming World Masters Games will be a success.
He also noted that this is the last time he is attending the meeting with Ko and expressed his gratitude to outgoing mayor for his help over the past 4 years. He wishes Mayor Ko the best and believes that by adhering to the spirit of cooperation the upcoming Master Games will achieve a successful conclusion.
