The trains behind: Top 5 train games for PC nerds

Do you know the best train PC games? RAIL NATION, RAILROAD TYCOON II, RAILROAD TYCOON III, TRAIN FEVER, TRAIN VALLEY 1 & 2.

RAIL NATION

This game gained attention thanks to the fact that it got mainly designed for gamers that enjoy railroad management rather than fans of operating the trains. It concentrates on all business decisions, financial solutions, and power plays that come with running your own railway corporation.

RAILROAD TYCOON II

The first Railroad Tycoon game, released in 1990, got credited as a pioneer of the railroad management genre. The creation of game design superstar Sid Meier, Railroad Tycoon, gave you the top hat of a burgeoning mogul and made you responsible for managing most aspects of a growing rail empire in the early-to-mid 1800s. Using a starting capital of $1 million, you get to build stations, lay tracks, set cargo prices, buy new engines, and grow your network. For example, rather than focusing on just one century, the game covers the entire history of railroads, from inception to the present day.

RAILROAD TYCOON III

By 2003 the game series got upgraded to modern gaming standards. The third entry in the franchise went through a change to 3D graphics, leaving the grid-based track construction of the earlier games. A few changes over its predecessor make Railroad Tycoon 3 an overall smoother experience, too. GameSpy named Railroad Tycoon 3 the tenth-best computer game of 2003 and the year’s best “PC Empire Builder” game.
